Children in our neighborhood face many challenges - poverty, food security, failing schools, high crime rates, and substance abuse. In spite of these high risk factors, the children of Open House Ministries are thriving and discovering their full potential. Open House Ministries provides year-round programming for the children in our community through our free Summer Camp and WISE-UP after school program. SUMMER: Most families in our community struggle economically. 95% of the children that attend the school across the street from our community center receive free or reduced lunch. It is difficult for these families that live on the edge to pay for childcare during the summer months. Often, a neighbor or older sibling is asked to take care of the younger children. Open House Ministries offers a free summer camp for 80 elementary students to ensure their safety while sharing God's love in FUN WAYS! The children participate in bible study, arts and crafts, music, recreation, swimming, and field trips. Open House Ministries could not embrace this ministry opportunity without the help of our visiting mission teams! Volunteers make the difference! By teaching our children what they know - what they know stays in Homestead even after the volunteers go home. Because holidays from school are also holidays from free and reduced meals, Open House Ministries partners with Miami-Dade summer lunch program to offer nutritious meals to the children in our community during the summer months. Their families are very grateful for the meals their children receive at Open House Ministries. Can you help us continue this vital ministry? Please click on the PayPal link on our home page. |
